Thank You, Recession?

Fam, I just finished watching a special on Current TV called: "Thank You, Recession". These folks were thanking the recession for teaching them how to budget?

One dude said the recession has taught him not to spend on Ebay items. Another said that she was thankful that the rent prices dropped so she could finally get a bigger place and a lady said thanks for letting her have a cheap wedding.

Alright, are yall thankful for this recession? Or have you been frugal all along?

Holla

Re: Thank You, Recession?

Those folks were spending too much in the first place.

I remember reading that Thrift stores and Goodwill were becoming big during the recession. Some of us have been shopping there for decades.

One thing I've learned about not having much money is that you realize you didn't NEED those things that you WANTED in the first place.

I won't say I was on a budget or frugal because I've always been kind of bad with money.

But I never had a lot, so splurging was something I never did. I learned to get the things I wanted for less by necessity.

I truly believe that when I do become rich, I will still be frugal because of how I've always lived.

Even if I had it, it would be hard for me to spend $900 on a purse or pair of shoes. My brain can't even fathom the notion. LOL

Re: Thank You, Recession?

i agree with tastey. i can't say thanks recession because the mentality is something you adopt for survival purposes. i can't survive if i'm spending $100 on a pair of shoes and don't bring in the income that allows me to do that AFTER bills are paid and money is saved. so its interesting. but everyone learns in their own time.
