should he have to pay more child support to pay for private school education?
i know a lady whose daughter is enrolled in one of the top private schools in this area. her and her husband are divorced. he has a child support order in place. she wants to take him back for more because her daughters tuition is close to 14 thousand a year.
what are you thoughts on that?

If he is paying according to the order set in place, and the child is being "supported" with that then I don't think she needs to go ask for more just so she can pay private school tuition.
If she really wants her child in private school why can't she get a 2nd job to pay for it?

Well, that's really up to the courts. Here in California, men get the short end of the stick and the odds are they may side with the mother for more support, this is sad but true.
I have a lot of child support horror stories from my friends. Thank god I do not have many to tell myself.

Did he have a say so before she put the child in private school, if not, then know she shouldn't go back.
But if he said, he thought it was cool, the split 50/50.

Re: should he have to pay more child support to pay for private school education?
I'm torn on this...truly..depending on the quality of education ....
I know for a fact w/ T-diddy not working so she (they) can no longer afford private school..and it was quite expensive he was there pre & kindergarten...the reading, math he learned there is just now being introduced in public school...craziness...public schools are dealing with issuses outside of education...family, violence, social..bad ass kids..that are hungry and mad..and parents that aren't involved...so yes..if the enviornment is shady...uh...yea..I'd take his azz back to court..and if I have to pay a % so be it!!!

Sooooo...I guess I'm just odd woman out....
we're talking about the quality/safety of OUR child's education...Now if the public schools in your area are shitty..either you got to move or request more moola!!!...yea, yea..I can pay some..no problem...and that's not the issue...
The situation is most sistuhs's aren't living a leave it to Beaver moment..with dad in the home and mom is a homemaker..more than likely, if she want's her child in private school..there's got to be a reason.....gat damn!!!..give the sistuh a break..so she don't want to raise a pookie and nem'..she's solo..hopefully doing the best she can, if the public school are not that good in her area..sometimes you gotta pay!!!

Re: should he have to pay more child support to pay for private school education?
Every child in a public school system doesn't end up as pookie and nem. It's about good parenting NOT just private school. I know lots of bad seeds who graduated from a private school. I know a few who are attending private school right now and I would not trust them as far as I can see them.
That's not to put down private schools. They are valuable...but they are not a necessity and necessities are what child support is for.
I'm a single parent who has never received a dime of child support and my son is 17, ain't on drugs, drinking, or got a baby momma. And Lord knows..and so do ya'll I ain't even close to being rich.
I've had to scrimp, save, and sacrifice...and leave him in a public school.
So when I see women who are getting child support, and the man has no problem taking care of his child adequately it pisses me off to see them wanting "extras".
Because the fact is, if I can make it with 0 help, she should be able to make it with the support order that she has.
Yes we'd ALL like more...but sometimes you have to work for it...and not run into court and say "gimme" all the time.

Re: should he have to pay more child support to pay for private school education?
she put her daughter in private school because she realized who smart she was at a young age and was determined to make sure that she did everything to make sure that she had the best education so that she could have the do whatever she wants in life.
she suggested that i put jj in this school because she is pretty smart..i told her (like tastey said) that plenty of doctors, lawyers, engineers, ect. come out of public schools so i was gone just work with jj to make sure that she gets the best out of public schools!
she decided to not go thru with going for more CS.....
i personally agree with those who said if he didnt agree with it he shouldnt be responsible.

I guess...
I'm just for the best education....
Where Malcolm is going to school now...the children are bad...1st grader being expelled for fighting cussin and stealing..1st grade!!
Maybe this is not the case everywhere..but inner city youth are crumbling..and public schools are failing...not saying private schools are the best but often the enviornment is better...
Malcolm is on a waiting list for a PUBLIC gate school... T-diddy says he will not be starting second grade in the school he's at...and when & if she lands a job back to a better school he'll go....
sometimes you just have to make changes for the betterment of your child

Re: should he have to pay more child support to pay for private school education?
I would say it depends on the quality of the education available at public schools in the area.
As for New York City, most of the public schools are horrible because teachers are spending more time disciplining and trying to stay on schedule with mandated testing than they are actually TEACHING.
As someone who went to private (Catholic) school most of my life, I know the struggles faced by parents who are paying for their children's education out of pocket. My elementary school tuition was about $5k a year and high school was nearing $8k when I graduated. My mother struggled and sometimes wasn't able to make my payments, but she buckled down and did what she had to do so I could receive what SHE thought was the best education possible.
And Chey, those numbers you brought up for day care/after school are are UTOPIAN compared to what I'm up against. The center at my job begins taking children at 6 weeks old. The rate is $1,560 per month, almost on par with my mortgage. I can't afford that - but it's one of the best centers in the area for children. It all comes down to what you think is necessary for your child, and in this woman's case, what the court will allow.
